SOUTH BAY CLERICUS

The South Bay section of Deanery 8 Clericus met for lunch today at the Blue Water Grill in Redondo Beach, California. The following folks were in attendance:

GOING FORWARD

DEANERY 8 LAY AND CLERICAL LEADERSHIP DINNER

Stephen Williams has graciously offered to host a dinner gathering of lay and clergy leaders in Deanery 8 sometime during the next 12 months. The program for the evening will be developed over the coming months with the main focus being to form closer relationships and friendships among the leaders of the deanery with an eye towards developing cooperative ventures among churches within the deanery.

FULL CLERICUS MEETINGS

After speaking with many of you it appears there is a real interest in doing two full day meetings together with programs that truly address our common needs and concerns in the deanery. When I worked as a principal of a public high school, I found that the planning for in-service days was most effectively done in a collaborative way. Having been a teacher for 24 years, I knew that teachers could plan the best programs for our times together. We always worked hard. We always had fun. And, we always got a lot done.

So, I hope we can plan two fantastic, fun, and functional days together.

CLERGY ASSOCIATION PRE-ADVENT QUIET DAY

Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at St. Matthew's Pacific Palisades
from 10 AM to 2:30 PM. Speaker will be Douglas Burton-Christie. There will also be eight mini-sermons for the Advent season. Sounds like a good way to begin Advent. RSVP to the Reverend Julie Bryant at jdbryant@stmatthews.com.

On Thursday, October 25, 2007, the first lunch of the Deanery 8 Clericus convened at Khoury' restaurant in the Long Beach Harbor. I want to thank Bryan Jones for serving as our covener and to those who attended and made our time so pleasant.

We toasted Elizabeth Habecker on her being named a Canon of the Diocese. Way to go, Elizabeth! Here is the roster of those who attended.

CLERICUS LUNCHEONS SCHEDULED

A reminder that our regular meetings of clericus will be offered based upon two geographic regions of the deanery. I will be attending both meetings and look forward to seeing as many of you as can attend.

October 25, 2007(Thursday) Bryan Jones is our convener and will be letting folks in the Long Beach, San Pedro, Wilmington, and Downey area section of the deanery know the location for the first Clericus Lunch meeting.

Here is the meeting information for folks on the east and south side of the deanery. Bryan Jones is our convener. I will be attending both luncheons. Bishop Caranza, we invite you to come to either of these gatherings or both, if you are able.

BRYAN'S NOTE TO ME REGARDING THE CLERICUS LUNCH ON OCTOBER 25th (THURSSDAY) at NOON. Please RSVP to Bryan and send him your email address so that he can have the best contact information for each of us.

Our sub-deanery lunch will be at Khoury's Restaurant, 110 North Marina Drive, Long Beach 90803-4601.

Our lunch together will begin at 12:00 Noon at The Blue Water Grill. Please give Martir a call at 310 676-8873 to let him know if you are planning to attend.

Both gatherings are open to any members of the clericus. If you can't attend the clericus luncheon scheduled in your area, you are more than welcome to attend the lunch gathering in the other area.

DEANERY 8 ASSEMBLY SCHEDULED

Saint Francis Parish in Palos Verdes has graciously offered to host our Deanery 8 pre-convention Assembly on October 28th at 3 PM. I hope we can get a good turn out for this once a year gathering.

I will be meeting with Michael Burgeron, our Deanery 8 President to set up our agenda for this meeting on October 15th. If you have any items you want us to consider for the agenda, please drop them to me via email. Thanks. Bob

FULL CLERICUS MEETINGS: PLANNING TEAMS

I would like for us to consider dates, activities, and locations for our full clericus gatherings. It has been suggested to me that we meet in our smaller lunch groups by location and availability more regularly and have two really full day clericus meetings (10 AM to 2 PM)with a program and other corporate activities. The time suggested above is just a suggestion. We may even consider an evening gathering for those who are unable to attend during the day time.

I would like for us to organize these two gatherings together. Perhaps a planning team from each of the geographical areas could take responsibility for putting together our programs for these times together. ANY THOUGHTS? Please e-mail me at rwcornner@aol.com. Thanks.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR DEANERY EIGHT

We are pleased to announce that the Pre-Convention Deanery Assembly meeting has been set for October 28Th at 300 P.M. This is a Sunday afternoon meeting and we have been graciously offered the use of St. Francis Church in Palos Verdes Estates. The address is 2200 Via Rosa, Palos Verdes Estates CA 90274 for those who will need to use Mapquest for directions. Telephone number for St. Francis is 310. 375.4617. If you need directions to St. Francis and cannot get them from the Internet, please call Mike Bergeron at 310. 245.4212.

This is a great opportunity for all members of Deanery eight to meet both the new Dean, Rev. Robert Cornner of Christ Church Redondo Beach, and the new President, Mike Bergeron of St. Michael the Archangel Church in El Segundo.

We will have an agenda for this meeting in a couple of weeks and will at that time e-mail a copy and a reminder of this meeting to all of you. Please work diligently to inspire all deanery members to attend to learn what is happening in our Deanery as well as what is in store for those who attend this years Convention.

MISCONDUCT PREVENTION TRAINING

Just a reminder that Rachel Nybeck needs to know how many people are going to be attending the Sexual Misconduct Prevention Training this coming week. I have one person coming from Christ Church who will attend the Saturday training. It is very important to let Rachel know if you have people who will be attending.

Oct. 4th at St. Mark's Downey from 6-9 pm

Oct. 6th at St. Cross Hermosa Beach from 9-12

The cost to those attending will be $5 per person to cover photo copies.

NOTE: ALL THOSE ATTENDING NEED TO EMAIL Rachel at rnyback@stcross.org to tell her who is attending, so that she can have enough photocopies of all the required documents.
